Spanners are standard, indispensable tools for workmen that facilitate the rotating of bolts, nuts, pipes and other hard-to-turn items. Across the Atlantic, wrench is the more widely used term for the same tool. Spanner sets provide a variety of size, shape and material options to allow these tools to be used in different circumstances. The highest quality spanners are manufactured from chrome vanadium alloy steel using the drop forge technique. An adjustable wrench provides flexibility by allowing the size of gap at the head to be changed by a simple spiral mechanism. An added advantage is the presence of a measure along the gap which allows users to resize it accurately. This is especially useful when dealing with intricate parts whose size is clearly labeled. Also, if the adjustable wrench is not up to the task, then the measure can be used to select an appropriate wrench tool of the right size. But with adjustable wrenches come certain issues that need to be remembered: they can be quite bulky, not as strong as a standard wrench tools, and very often dirt does not allow the adjustable spiral to move smoothly.
